Inspired by the success of the Breast Friends breast cancer fundraising cookbooks, this Texan knew she could go big in her home state with her own breast cancer fundraising cookbook.

Not only chock full of great recipes, including a section of recipes from local Houston celebrities, the cookbook also contains numerous uplifting stories from cancer survivors.

Another charity dear to her heart, because of son Chad being in the Marines, is The Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment. Karen has combined these two concepts into her fundraising cookbook Ooh-Rah For Tah-Tahs.

Check out her website, www.ooh-rah-for-tah-tahs.com to read the full story of her remarkable journey and to learn how you can help raise money for both these worthy causes.

One of their objectives of starting a B&B was based on the desire to share with others their love of the Smoky Mountains and their proud heritage. Along with this came the desire to provide as much good Southern hospitality and food as their ancestors did.

In earlier times the objective in any mountain home was to make “company” or guests feel comfortable and at home. They always said, “Make yourself at home” and truly meant it. Next came the offer of something to drink or eat.

Into this philosophy was born the idea of publishing a cookbook, reflecting the heritage of their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and great-aunts whose love for food and cooking gave them great joy and pleasure throughout their lives.

Norman and Sarah, after repeated requests for recipes of their guests’ favorite dishes, can now offer Blue Mountain Mist Country Inn Cookbook, a beautiful, coil-bound cookbook, filled with family pictures, Smoky Mountain sayings, and, of course, the recipes for which Blue Mountain Mist is so well known.

Awarded one of the 10 best B&B’s in the South by BedandBreakfast.com, 2 years in a row.

But in the case of “Connecting To Haiti”, a new fundraising effort by The Dwelling Place (Springvale Brethren In Christ Church), in Hagersville, Ontario, that intention is twofold.

Not only is the 131-recipe digest designed to delight and satisfy the appetites of those who purchase and use the cookbook, but monies raised from the fundraising project’s sales go to help with the care of children in two Haitian orphanages.

The decision to help feed impoverished children living at the Mission of Hope Orphanage and Tytoo Gardens Orphanage came after a series of mission projects in Haiti that saw members of The Dwelling Place observe firsthand the extreme poverty and homelessness faced by many, including young people.

The first run of 350 books is available now, and copies of Connecting To Haiti can be purchased via e-mail for just $10 each. In addition to a variety of delicious and heartwarming recipes, the cookbook includes several pages of color photos depicting the very children who will benefit directly from the proceeds of this fundraising cookbook project.

“Just looking at the images of those beautiful smiling faces in the book, it’s easy to see what makes this fundraising cookbook such a noble and important initiative,” says Rhonda Pineau, Sales and Marketing Manager of Gateway Publishing’s cookbooks department. “We commend the folks from The Dwelling Place for their determination to make a difference in the lives of these children and wish them nothing but success in this endeavor.”

Nine years ago Liz Holzemer was diagnosed with a large meningioma brain tumor and faced a grim outlook. Two surgeries and two “miracle” children later, Liz is the engine powering Meningioma Mommas, the non-profit foundation she created to help support others who have been diagnosed with, survived, or cared for someone who has a meningioma brain tumor.

As part of her quest to raise public awareness of meningiomas, Liz is committed to raising $1 million to help fund meningioma-specific research. Today, she is one-sixth of the way to her goal, having brought in more than $165,000 for the cause. And more is on the way, with the launch of Feeding the Mind & Soul (second edition) – a 230-page fundraising cookbook printed by Gateway Publishing.

Featuring treasured and delicious recipes from the Meningioma Mommas and Pappas themselves (plus their families and caregivers), Feeding the Mind & Soul also includes inspirational quotes and humorous quips. The first run of 1,000 books is available now and can be ordered for $25 per copy.

“It’s very special for us to be a part of this important fundraising effort,” says Rhonda Pineau, Sales and Marketing Manager of Gateway Publishing’s cookbooks department. “The story behind Meningioma Mommas is so inspiring and the work done by this foundation is truly wonderful. Liz and her team have put together a terrific cookbook and I’m confident it will be a big hit that will push them even closer to their fundraising goal.”

About two years ago, the Los Angeles area’s Beacon Light Missions decided to build a 6,500 square foot shelter for homeless women, as an addition to the organization’s facility, which has historically housed men only. Volunteers for the mission set out to raise the necessary funds for construction – approximately $800,000 – despite a challenging economy and ineligibility for public funding.

The group is now about three quarters of the way toward its goal, having received more than $625,000 in donations to date.

Fundraising efforts continue, the latest being “Recipes From The Family Pantry”, a 168-page cookbook printed by Gateway Publishing. It contains 320 recipes submitted by volunteers, including those used for creating the casseroles that are prepared each month for the mission’s shelter.

The initial order of 3,000 cookbooks was shipped earlier this month, and can be purchased by contacting the Beacon Light Mission or at one of the group’s upcoming events. Money raised from the sale of the cookbooks will help fund the new women’s shelter, to be called “Doors of Hope”.

The new facility will have 20 beds; an upstairs apartment for staff members on call 24/7; large bathrooms; an office and a counseling room. The Doors of Hope Women’s Shelter Committee anticipates that ongoing sales of the cookbook will also help to offset some of the facility’s operating costs.

“We’re very pleased to be involved with this cookbook project because it’s for such an important cause,” said Rhonda Pineau, Sales and Marketing Manager of Gateway Publishing’s cookbooks department. “The issues of homelessness and women’s safety concern all of us. It’s wonderful to know this fundraising cookbook will help to open the ‘Doors of Hope’ for women in need in Los Angeles.”

How much would you pay to dine with the President of the United States? Well, for just $15 you can dine LIKE the President of the United States.

That’s the price for a copy of “The World’s Kitchen Cookbook“, which contains the Obama family chili recipe, submitted by First Lady Michelle Obama via her scheduling office. The presidential concoction is among hundreds of dishes showcased in the unique, globally inspired cookbook produced by The International Club students at Stone Mountain High School in DeKalb County, Georgia.

Just like the students who created “The World’s Kitchen Cookbook” the recipes hail from all corners of the globe including Spain, Vietnam, Cambodia, East Africa, Bosnia and other places. The compilation also features pictures and educational data such as international currency information, biographies on global heads of state and historical facts.

Lisa Fátimah Armorer, the club’s sponsor, says that the fundraising cookbook is a useful resource that can teach people about the very places from which the featured dishes originate. She notes that the international flavors highlighted in the fundraising cookbook are authentic, as they were provided by the families of students who comprise the school’s International Club.

And it was Ms. Armorer’s own persistence that led to the acquisition of the Obama family chili recipe for the project, which was published in 2009 by Gateway Publishing’s fundraising cookbook division.

“It’s definitely one of the more unique cookbooks that we’ve been a part of,” says Rhonda Pineau, Sales and Marketing Manager of Gateway’s cookbook publishing division. “Between the President’s chili and all the great global recipes it’s no surprise their initiative has been so successful!”

“The collaborative effort of people from myriad backgrounds, cities, states and countries produced a masterpiece,” adds Carolyn D. Williams, Principal of Stone Mountain High School.

The secret to their success: a series of best-selling self-published cookbooks, all printed at Gateway Publishing since 2004.

The first book, “For The Breasts of Friends”, was produced to help the women deal with the grief of losing friends and family members to breast cancer. Featuring 400+ recipes from the authors, along with breast cancer facts, advice, and heartwarming quotes for women, the book quickly surpassed its modest sales targets and has already raised more than $500,000 to date.

A follow-up cookbook, titled “For the Breasts and the Rest of Friends” was produced in 2006, and it became a national bestseller in just one month. Like its predecessor, the book includes more than 400 recipes along with helpful breast cancer-related information, quotes, and quips intended to both empathize with and inspire those dealing — directly or indirectly — with the illness. The recipes in this edition were donated by family and friends of the authors.

In 2008, the group released a third fundraising cookbook destined for best-selling status — which it achieved based on pre-orders alone. “Breast Wishes from Breast Friends”, was released before Mother’s Day last year and includes recipes gathered from breast cancer survivors. It’s dedicated to women living with and in spite of breast cancer.

Priced at $19.95 each, the cookbooks are an excellent fundraiser because they are both affordable and represent good value. From an initial order of just 2500 copies, the group has re-ordered many times at larger quantities that enable greater discounts and a reduced per-unit cost.

“We’re proud to partner with The Breast Friends and are thrilled for their achievements,” says Rhonda Pineau, Sales and Marketing Manager of Gateway Publishing’s cookbooks department. “They’ve proven that cookbooks can be a recipe for fundraising success!”

This Fredericton chapter is one of 220 independent groups across Canada and beyond that are raising money for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, supporting the millions of grandmothers in Africa who are raising grandchildren orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Grandmothers Helping Grandmothers are slightly different from most Grandmother groups as they also support a small Ottawa-based NGO (Non-governmental Organization), Help Lesotho, which also has a grandmothers’ support program.

We were first approached by Maggie Clarke in June of this year with their cookbook idea and were almost as excited as they were to take part in this fundraising event.

Their initial order of 1,000 cookbooks was delivered in July and just yesterday, Sept, 16, we received this email from Maggie:

“Our Cookbook is so successful that we have decided to order another 1,000. We had our Launch last night and they are doing an article on it in the local paper on Wednesday.”

Now that’s what we call Grandmother Power!
